Eliminating Phantom Movement in Encoder Applications

The paper discusses how false movement signaling occurs in the encoder signal lines as a result of mechanical vibration and electrical noise.  This results in inexplicable false readings for position and speed in robotic systems and is unavoidable in complex, multi-axis motion control systems.  As discussed, a multimode filter addresses all the problems by acting on both, the causes and the symptoms, to remove the effects of noise and vibration.  The encoder signals are then regenerated to reflect the correct position and speed.
