The Bit I/O and Serial Data Satellite typically addresses automating applications which require bit I/O interfacing for timing, counting and state monitoring and control. A serial port facility is also available to interface to an operator terminal or other serial device (e.g. modem, motor drive etc.). This satellite can also be used in 'intelligent' building applications where events are counted, timed and monitored in a similar fashion.
This satellite platform features:
RS485 Quamatic Net serial port. The net line is galvanically isolated from the other resources on the platform, while the serial data are available locally per RS232 with no flow control (RX and TX only) for debugging and diagnostic purposes.
Local serial communication port. Supports the protocols: RS232 and Optocoupled TTY (20 mA). The port employs a 16x50 IC whose operation is completely programmable and configurable.
8xC51Fx processor, 32K SRAM and 64K EPROM. Given the parametric nature of the Quamatic line, operation is not limited by the processor type or the available memory.
Watchdog/Sanity timer. Its operation is transparent to the user.
12 galvanically isolated bit outputs, of which four are directly driven by the processor. These can drive local automation (such as relays, contactors, alarms, vanes) supporting the operator via the running application on a local PC (connected to the satellite serial port) in the productive running of the equipment.
15 galvanically isolated bit inputs, of which four directly drive the processor and three activate interrupts. Of the remaining, seven can activate hierarchically structured interrupts via the available 8259 circuit. All inputs enable fast data capturing as well as control of local automation (such as workpiece counting, position/speed from encoder pulsing, scrap rejection) and as already mentioned, the operator is supported effectively in running the equipment productively. The bit inputs interface to all types of signaling (normally open/closed contacts, current source/sink and so on) and can be digitally filtered or debounced via the Configuration File.
